Every inch and piece of wood carries a story. Some stories shine through the polished surface of a well‑loved table; others are written in dents, ring marks and scratches left by our busy lives.

For more than 40 years I’ve had the privilege of uncovering those stories and covering them up — and helping them begin a new chapter.

Wood By Design started with a  simple belief that nothing crafted with care & passion should be discarded or replaced lightly.

I restore everything with the same ethos, from family heirlooms and fine furniture to violins & guitars,   kitchen worktops, staircases, floors and doors. My work spans private homes - large & small,  historical manors, hotels, restaurants, offices and public buildings such as museums and courthouses, and extends to luxury & classic cars as well as boat interiors.

Each project arrives with its own history and past, and I treat every piece with the respect it deserves.

I truly love my work. I knew as a young boy what I wanted to do, and I trained to make that dream become real — with time at the Swiss School of Carving and the London College of Furniture and  over four decades of experience as a French polisher and restorer, I find the my craft deeply satisfying and endlessly rewarding.

Sometimes the task is small: lifting a stain or easing out a dent. Other times it’s a full-on transformation — taking something tired or forgotten and  giving  it a new lease of life. Whether antique or contemporary, subtle refresh or complete makeover, the challenge is always the same: restore the warmth, the character and the life back, so the story can continue….
